Dr. Allen L. Beede, O.D.

I am a native of San Jose, born in Mountain View and raised in San Jose. I attended Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA where I received my Bachelor of Science degree with honors and graduated from the Southern California College of Optometry, receiving my Doctorate in Optometry. My experiences range from working at a Veteran's hospital, U.S. Military base, and several community clinics. I have worked side by side with eye surgeons at Stanford to co-manage laser refractive surgeries and treat eye diseases. I had the prestigious honor of being a National Board Examiner for Optometry since 2003, where I participate in determining whether potential optometrists have adequate clinical skills for national and state licensure. I have been a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association since 1995, the Santa Clara Optometric Society since 1999, and the National Board Examiners of Optometry since 2003.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California, and received my Doctorate degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. I have a great deal of experience in primary care optometry, including pediatric vision and low vision rehabilitation. I have worked at several centers for the blind and partially sighted, Veterans hospitals, and have worked at inner-city clinics to provide health care for children. I have dedicated my time doing vision screenings at public schools, AIDS Project Los Angeles, and many community clinics. I am Board certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases and have received glaucoma certification. I am a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, and Santa Clara Optometric Society. Outside the practice, I enjoy spending time with my family, enjoy food and wine, relaxing weekend get aways, and caring for the family dog.

Our Practice
Our practice has been caring for patients in San Jose since 1902.
Dr. Beede and Dr. Shiroishi are optometrists who have been practicing since 1999, since purchasing the practice from Robert Madden, O.D. Dr. Madden practiced from 1965 to 1999 after purchasing the practice from optometrist, Dr. Robert Osborn in 1965. From1935 to 1965, Dr. Osborn provided eye care after taking over the practice from his father, Dr. Alfonso Osborn in 1935. Dr. Alfonso Osborn was an optometrist and founder of the practice, opening in downtown San Jose in 1902 on First Street.
Dr. Osborn moved his practice to 259 Meridian Avenue. The practice stayed here until 1978 when Dr. Madden moved it to our former location at 240 Meridian Avenue. Now after 25 years, we have relocated the practice to our new location at 1530 The Alameda, Suite 210.
